Secondary Science

ASSOCIATE OF ARTS IN TEACHING – SECONDARY SCIENCE
This curriculum is designed for students who wish to transfer into an education program at a four-year institution. Science has been designated as a high-need area for teacher preparation and employment is expected to remain high. The degree program focuses on the eleven Illinois Professional Teaching Standards, the Technology Standards for All Teachers, and the Core Language Arts Standards for All Teachers. Early portfolio work and field experience components are built into the curriculum as well. In the second spring semester, students will be required to take and pass the Illinois Basic Skills Test. This program will meet state requirements for paraprofessionals.

*Students who are completing an Associate Degree must complete a graduation portfolio. For those students completing an Associate in Arts & Science (AA&S), an Associate in General Studies (AGS), or an Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree, a one credit Portfolio Capstone Class will also be required.
