Funk Kitchen was born out of the need to create a comprehensive, student-driven fine arts organization. Formed during the spring semester in 2010, the organization's purpose is "to promote among the students, faculty, staff and community an appreciation of the arts. The student arts organization will be involved by providing students with hands on experiences with things like lighting design, program and flyer construction, and performance production. The student arts organization will work toward creating events where people in all arts disciplines will work together creatively. The overall goal of the group is to raise interest in the arts by providing our community with greater exposure to drama, literature, music, dance, and visual arts." Any person enrolled at SRC full or part-time with an interest in the arts is eligible for membership. Students will be considered active if they regularly attend meetings (both face-to-face and online) and participate in activities.
Activities/functions of the group may include but are not limited to:
Organization of exhibits of student work in the Highlight Room in Centers Building, the Engle Conference Room and/or the Taylor Hall Drama Theater, as well as other college facilities
Coordinate arts events such as forming an Improv Comedy/Performance troupe.
Coordinate field trips to theatre productions, museums, art shows or other venues where collaborations of art and drama go hand in hand.
Annual Student Art Exhibition in the spring of each year (hanging and managing the show)
Fund-raising for group activities or community service projects.
