Several Spoon River College student-athletes were recognized by the Mid-West Athletic Conference (MWAC), and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
The NJCAA awards those student-athletes who have shown the ability to excel in the classroom while competing in their sport. A student must complete a minimum of 24 hours during the year. Making NJCAA All-Academic First Team (perfect 4.0) were Jack Schaffer, Clay Schroeder, Ashlyn Towery, and Connor Wise.
Selected for NJCAA All-Academic Third Team (3.06-3.79) were Jaden Marie DeLeon, April Hoover, Brett Johnson, Samantha Miner, and Jarrot Stealy.
MWAC Academic All-Conference awards went to Jurnee Adams, Andrea Aguilar, Jaden Deleon, April Hoover, Brett Johnson, Samantha Miner, Riley Newlund, Jack Schaffer, Clay Schroeder, Jarrot Stealy, Dylan Suca, Ashlyn Towery, and Connor Wise.
Softball player Samantha Miner earned All Region honors and baseball player Robert Chayka earned All Region and Gold Glove honors.
Robert Chayka also made MWAC All-Conference First Team, Samantha Miner and Brett Johnson made Second Team, and Nelson Diaz, Lexi Campbell, and Rayna Davis made Honorable Mention.
Softball players named to the 2018 MWAC All-Conference Second Team were catcher Marcela Mejia (Surprise, AZ) and infield players Samantha Miner (Silvas, IL) and Kaley Southard (Phoenix, AZ). Alexia Campbell (Havana, IL) earned a spot on the Honorable Mention All-Conference Team.
Southard was also named to the All-Region Team for Region 24, while Maureen Short (St. Joseph, IL) was named to the Region 24 All-Tournament Team.
Recognized for academic excellence by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) were Sydney Broadhead (Colchester, IL) and Addison Papenhouse (Tremont, IL), who were named to All-Academic First Team with a 4.0 GPA for the second year in a row. Named to All-Academic Second Team with a 3.80 – 3.99 GPA were Connor Alexa (Frankfort, IL), Dillon Sink (Wesley Chapel, FL), and William Robertson (Beardstown, IL).
Recognized as MWAC Academic All-Conference with a 3.5 or higher GPA were Connor Alexa, Andrea Aguilar (Eastvale, CA), Sydney Broadhead, Harold Fernandez (Baldwin, NY), Samantha Miner, Addison Papenhause, William Robertson, and Dillon Sink.
Named to the MWAC First Team All-Conference was infielder Zach Roberts (Florida) (.
Named to Second Team All-Conference were pitcher Gabe Rivas (Orlando, FL) and infielder Kyle Shoulta (Palm Harbor, FL).

Kaley Southard was named to the 2017 MWAC All-Conference First Team, Miranda Aguilar to the All-Conference Second Team, and Sarah Lancman earned Honorable Mention All-Conference Team.
The softball team was recognized for a combined GPA over 3.0, plus MWAC Academic All-Conference winners were Whitney Adams, Miranda Aguilar, Sydney Broadhead, Jordan Mae Keller, Taylor Kellum, Addie Papenhause, Maureen Short, and Ariel Towery.
Members of the baseball team recognized as Academic All-Conference were Karl Morales, Jr., Dillion Sink, and Harold Fernandez.
Aguilar was recognized as a 2017 NFCA All-Region player and Second Team All-American, and she and Southard were also named Region 24 All-Region players.
The NJCAA recognized Jordan Mae Keller, Addie Papenhause, and Ariel Towery as All-Academic First Team (4.0 GPA), Sydney Broadhead, Harold Fernandez, and Taylor Kellum as All-Academic Second Team (3.80-3.99 GPA), and Whitney Adams and Karl Morales as All-Academic Third Team (3.60-3.79 GPA).

Four Spoon River College student-athletes were recognized by the Mid-West Athletic Conference (MWAC), the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for their academic accomplishments while attending SRC.
Academic All-Conference honors went to baseball player Roger Tisby and softball players Ariel Towery, Taylor Kellum, and Miranda Aguilar for maintaining a 3.5 or higher GPA in 24 credit hours or more of college coursework.
In addition, Aguilar, Towery, and Kellum were honored as All-American Scholar Athletes by the NFCA for maintaining a 3.6 or higher GPA in 24 credit hours or more of college coursework.
Kellum and Towery were also both honored with the NJCAA Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence for maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Tisby was honored with the NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement for his 3.6+ GPA.
