SRC Board Votes to Reduce Property Tax Levy

12/16/2021

During the December 2021 meeting, Spoon River College Board of Trustees members voted to approve the property tax levy that will be used to figure the fiscal year 2023 property taxes. The Board approved a total SRC tax rate of .6530. This rate represents a 1.47% decrease from the previous year's tax rate.  This does not guarantee that an individual's property tax would be reduced, because there could be an increase of assessment of the property, but the tax rate requested from SRC is being reduced. SRC President Curt Oldfield stated "the Spoon River College Board members take their fiscal responsibility very seriously and are happy to be able to provide some small relief to the property owners in the SRC district."

In other Board action, the Board voted to approve changing the January 2022 Board retreat and regular meeting location to the Macomb Outreach Center. The Board also approved an agreement with ONEFIRE to redesign the SRC.edu website.  This work will begin after the first of the year and changes to the website should be visible in late spring 2022.  Finally, the Board of Trustees heard reports about the increase of courses and rentals at the Macomb Outreach Center, and a report from the assessment committee about the work the SRC faculty are doing to measure learning outcomes of all students in the areas of communication, problem solving, equity, creativity, decision making, and collaboration.
